Ride a Dino Riding Guide: Targets, Jumps and Stamina

Last updated 2026-10-18Unofficial player article

Quick answer

  • One target at a time: Choose a dinosaur before jumping and stay with it while the tame finishes.
  • Read the run: Keep track of stamina and the herd instead of assuming every longer trip produces a better catch.

Make the next jump an intentional choice

Ride a Dino riding is easier to follow when you decide what the next jump is for. It might put you onto a target, move you to another dinosaur or turn a poor approach into another attempt. Pressing Space on a computer without choosing that purpose first makes the run feel less controllable.

Look for a target you can commit to. Once you are riding it, give the capture time instead of immediately searching for a more exciting replacement. A completed tame has value even when another creature passes you.

Keep stamina separate from ambition

Stamina exhaustion can end a run. Reaching farther therefore creates a different problem from finishing a catch: you still need enough of the attempt left to do what you came for. Do not let a new distance milestone make you forget the dinosaur you wanted.

When a run repeatedly ends before your chosen goal, lower that goal for the next attempt or return to Grip training. Training is part of preparation; it is not a reason to stop making deliberate riding decisions. A difficult target can remain difficult even after you have spent time improving your character.

Do not chase an empty stretch forever

The gameplay includes moments when the player is behind the stampede and sees few targets. If the herd is not where you expected, reassess the run instead of assuming that more speed or a farther destination will automatically create a better encounter.

A useful riding goal should include an actual target or a clear exploration purpose. Wandering farther with no catch in mind can consume the attempt without helping your ranch. When you do meet a manageable dinosaur, decide whether completing that tame is worth more than continuing the distance push.

Choose between continuing and securing progress

After a successful capture, you can make returning home the sensible next action. Use the available return-to-pen control and give the ranch some attention before starting another run. You do not need to chain every possible encounter into one trip.

If you continue riding, make that a new decision with a new purpose. Do you want another species, a different mount to practise with or a look at another era? Those goals deserve different levels of commitment. The important part is knowing which result would make the trip worthwhile.

The taming guide covers the capture itself. Use it when you can ride to a dinosaur but keep losing the result before you bring it home. Keep this riding guide for the choices around the run: approach, target, timing and when to stop.
